Matt Damon is all in for Ocean’s 14 whenever Steven Soderbergh is ready

Matt Damon is hard at work doing press for his newest film Stillwater but that hasn't stopped him from talking about his past projects. The actor was asked if he'd be willing to return to one of his biggest franchises and Damon was all in on the idea if it were to happen.

During a chat on Good Morning America, Damon was asked if he would entertain the idea of returning for a potential Ocean's 14 and the actor's answer indicated that he'd more than entertain the idea of joining the gang again:

"It would always be up to Steven Soderbergh if there was a story. We have lost a couple of our members, so we would have to figure it out, we are a depleted gang now."

Damon is referring to his co-stars Bernie Mac and Carl Reiner, who have since died following the release of the last film, Ocean's Thirteen, in 2007. When Ocean's Eleven was released in 2001, the film was a bit of a gamble despite its A-list cast and having an on-fire director at the helm. The 1960 film that Ocean's Eleven is based on isn't exactly highly regarded but Soderbergh and his crew took its movie star elements and turned it into one of the best heist films to hit the big screen. In Ocean's Eleven, Danny Ocean (George Clooney) wants to score the biggest heist in history. He combines an eleven-member crew, including Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon), Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), and Frank Catton (Bernie Mac), among others.  Their target is The Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand, all casinos that are owned by Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) who is the lover of Ocean's ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts). The plan is for the team to get in and get out with $150 million of Terry Benedict's money.

Don Cheadle, who plays Basher Tarr in the franchise, was recently asked about doing another installment and he also seemed open to the idea if Steven Soderbergh had a good story to tell, despite missing a couple of key members of the squad:

"We were talking about it, and then Bernie passed, and very quickly we were like, 'No, we don't want to do it. But I just did a movie with Stephen and he said, 'I think there may be a way to do it again. I'm thinking about it.' And it didn't go much further than that. But I don't know; I don't know who all would be in it. I imagine the main group of us would be in. It would be interesting to see."

The Ocean's film series has seen a mixed to favorable critical reception but substantial financial success. Collectively the films have grossed $1.17 billion worldwide, with the first film still being the most commercially successful of the bunch. The core three films were successful enough that an all-female spin-off called Ocean's 8, headlined by Sandra Bullock, was also released to financial success with a gross of $297.7 million worldwide on a $70 million budget. Perhaps Ocean's 14 can bring in some of the ladies of Ocean's 8? The possibilities are endless.
