Yesterday Kevin Feige brought us up to speed on INHUMANS and Ryan Coogler's BLACK PANTHER, and during a conversation with Fandango at the CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR press day, the Marvel Studios head also gave an update on another Phase 3 film: CAPTAIN MARVEL. Feige tells the site that the director and the cast of Marvel's first female-led comic book movie will probably be announced before the end of this summer.
I think we’ll be announcing a filmmaker in the next month or two, and probably some cast members later in the summer, at the end of the summer.
Feige went on to say that the movie will focus on “Carol Danvers and that journey to being Captain Marvel," and he also said that although Marvel is planning on producing additional solo female superhero films, they're a little busy right now with their Phase 3 flicks.
Yes, for sure, I think [Black] Widow at some point would be great. But when you start talking about things that are now four/five years away…sometimes we do that. Dr. Strange has been talked about for ten years. But we’re focused on the next nine movies, which is a lot, between now and 2019.
Who would you like to see direct and star in CAPTAIN MARVEL?
CAPTAIN MARVEL will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
