Remember not too long ago when Wesley Snipes was spilling the beans about meeting with Marvel Studios, and the topic of their conversations seemed to be the actor stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in order to reprise his role as Blade?
Well, it seems as if Snipes may have really been onto something if the rumors of his participation in the MCU turn out to be true. Only they don’t seem to be supporting the idea that Snipes himself will be fronting a new chapter in Blade’s adventures, but filling more of a supporting role with Marvel instead exploring designs on a solo film about his daughter.
New rumblings suggest that the studio is eyeing a movie built around his kin, 16-year-old Fallon Grey, who was announced to be receiving her own Marvel Comics series earlier this year. The #1 issue of that book has been pushed back from its initial release and the suggestion is that the delay is due to Marvel’s increased level of care with the property for future use. The character would be extremely important for what Marvel is looking to do in the future, and, as a result, they’d like to make sure there are no screw-ups in launching Grey with long-term benefits now in mind.
Snipes would still factor in, as he is said to have an important role in the comics. That would allow him to step into new territory that the previous trilogy of films didn’t exactly cover, allowing Marvel a taste of something old and something new at the same time.
If this comes to fruition, it sounds like a brilliant idea for bringing Blade back into the fold while passing the torch to someone else to carry the franchise forward.
To Blade or not to Blade…? That is the question. How do you feel about the idea of Blade passing the torch to his daughter to continue the series?
