Marion Cotillard set to co-star with Michael Fassbender in Assassin’s Creed

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Despite being pushed to next year, ASSASSIN’S CREED is not in development hell. After landing Michael Fassbender as star and producer, the video game adaptation has been bouncing around a bit. But, a second cast-member has joined the production. Marion Cotillard will appear opposite Fassbender in the film, a reunion for the pair who worked together on the upcoming MACBETH.

Cotillard is best known for her roles in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and INCEPTION as well as her Oscar-winning turn in LA VIE EN ROSE. Cotillard’s character in ASSASSIN’S CREED is currently unknown but it is expected to be a multi-film role should the adaptation prove to be a hit and worthy of sequels.

While we don’t know for certain, ASSASSIN’S CREED seems to be based on the first game in the series which focused on the character of Altair during the Third Crusade in the 12th century. Whether the movie will feature Fassbender as the contemporary character of Miles sent back in time or not remains to be seen. Other rumors have the movie set during the Spanish Inquisition, but nothing is confirmed.

ASSASSIN’S CREED is set to be directed by Justin Kurzel who helmed MACBETH, making this a reunion for everyone involved so far. Hopefully we will learn more soon as the film will enter production later this year to make it’s set release date of December 21, 2016.
