A new adaptation of William Golding's classic novel "Lord of the Flies" has been in the works for several years at Warner Bros., and Variety has reported that Luca Guadagnino, director of CALL ME BY YOUR NAME and SUSPIRA, is in negotiations to direct.
I'd imagine that most of us have read "Lord of the Flies" in English class at some point during our years at school, but here's a quick refresher: The novel follows a group of young school boys who are stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashes and their disastrous attempts to establish some form of order. The novel has been adapted several times before, and it was previously reported that this new adaptation would follow a group of school girls rather than boys, however, Variety's insiders have said that that's no longer the case and the plot will once again follow a group of school boys. Should the deal close, it's said that Luca Guadagnino will "develop a story that stays true to the text but with a contemporary, ultra-kinetic feel."
There are no writers attached to the LORD OF THE FLIES project at the moment, so it's unclear whether or not this will be Luca Guadagnino's next film. He's currently in pre-production on We Are Who We Are, a miniseries for HBO which tells a coming-of-age tale of two American teenagers who live on an American military base with their parents in Italy. We Are Who We Are is set to star Chloe Sevigny (Big Love), Alice Braga (PREDATORS), Kid Cudi (How to Make it in America), Jack Dylan Grazer (SHAZAM!), and more, with production set to kick off in the coming days.
