Luc Besson to film sci-fi epic Valerian with Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

THE FIFTH ELEMENT fans are like vegans; they just can't shut up about it! However, I can't say that I blame them. Science-fiction film design takes a hell of a lot of imagination and if THE FIFTH ELEMENT has anything going for it, it's a unique sense of style in a genre where filmmakers are always trying to outdo one another. Well, we have some great news for those wondering if writer/director Luc Besson would ever return to the genre and the answer is a resounding, "Yes!"

Having just signed up for Twitter, the filmmaker decided to announce his latest project, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS, will shoot in December of this year for a 2017 release. The film, which is based on the Valerian and Laureline comics, will follow a spatio-temporal agent and his companion as they travel the universe through space and time. If you're wondering which two actors will be traveling with a time and space multi-pass, Besson was goodly enough to announce that too!

Dane DeHaan made some waves in Josh Trank's low-budget CHRONICLE, and then went on to impress absolutely no one as the Green Goblin in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. As we all know, he wasn't exactly given much to work with, so here's hoping VALERIAN restores the man's name. Cara Delevingne, on the other hand, has a shit load of work coming out the near future. We're talking PAPER TOWNS, PAN, and a role as Enchantress in SUICIDE SQUAD, just to name a few. Regardless, I think we'll all be very interested in seeing as to what Luc Besson can deliver with this project!

VALERIAN aims to hit theaters in the summer of 2017.
