Sound the bell, dust off your Trapper Keeper, and prepare to enroll at Clone High once more!
MTV Studios announced today that Academy Award-winning creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller will reimagine the iconic Clone High television series with Emmy-nominated co-creator Bill Lawrence. Together with MTV and Erica Rivinoja, the trio will be getting the band back together to develop and produce new episodes of the animated series, which many have hailed as a time capsule of the early 2000s with its satirical approach to emo culture and the lives of young adults growing up in the time of Korn, tracksuits, and episodes of ROSWELL. Rivinoja, who was a writer on the original series will serve as showrunner and will co-write the pilot with Lord and Miller.
Like the original, Clone High will follow prominent historical figures who have been cloned and placed back in high school, including Abraham Lincoln, Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, John F. Kennedy, Gandhi, and more, as they face the trials and tribulations of normal teenage life.
“We're thrilled to reunite with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence to re-imagine this cult classic as we rapidly grow our portfolio of beloved and iconic adult animation series,” said Chris McCarthy, President, ViacomCBS Entertainment and Youth Group.
Boy, where's that "What year is it" Jumanji meme when you really need it? While I've yet to experience Clone High for myself, I have plenty of friends who've talked rather fondly about the series over the years. I wonder if they'll be excited to hear that it's coming back and with Lord and Miller on board no less. We'll be sure to update you as this promising project develops. For now, let us know if you're excited about Clone High coming back in the comments section below.
