Lee Pace in talks to be the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy, but which one?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

After a great turn on the short-lived series PUSHING DAISIES and a recent role in Peter Jackson‘s HOBBIT trilogy, Lee Pace has started to garner some more recognition in Hollywood. I have been a fan of the guy from his roles in Tarsem’s THE FALL and LINCOLN and I forgive him for being in the last TWILIGHT movie. But, now he looks to be gaining a whole new set of fans if this news turns out to be true.

Lee Pace is about to join the cast of Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY in an unspecified role as a villain, acorrding to The Wrap, but it is unclear which villain he would be playing. It has long been assumed that Thanos would play some sort of role in the movie, but it is looking more and more likely that he will be reserved for the role of big bad guy in THE AVENGERS 2, which leaves us to wonder who will the interstellar superheroes be facing off against?

With James Gunn‘s team of Guardians differing from the squad from the comics, it truly could be any character for Pace to play, but I am putting my money on The Phalanx. The Phalanx is a Borg-like hive mind creature that has been an enemy for multiple teams in the Marvel universe. In the recent Annihilation storyline from 2008, The Phalanx was led by Ultron. So, Pace could conceivably play a variation of The Phalanx or even Ultron himself. I have been waiting to see the evil robot on screen for some time and this may be the time.

Of course, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY may be going in a totally different direction, but every step so far seems to have been spot of. We will find out soon as filming is going to begin shortly in England. The cast now includes Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, and continues to grow.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens on August 1, 2014.
