Just when you thought five films for James Cameron's Avatar series was too much Marv Group CEO Zygi Kamasa has said that filmmaker Matthew Vaughn is plotting “something like seven more Kingsman films” for the action-packed franchise.
“We want to grow the business and the output,” Kamasa told the Winston Baker UK Finance Summit late last week. “We have a Kingsman TV series in the works and there are two-three other franchises that are being developed alongside the Kingsman world.”
The Kingsman franchise has grossed $825.2M so far, thanks to two wildly-entertaining films (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle). There's also The King's Man, a prequel that is scheduled to hit theaters in February of next year after COVID-delays knocked the film off course. Starring Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Bruhl, Stanley Tucci, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Djimon Hounsou, The King's Man could easily gross upward of $1BN on account of quarantined moviegoers being starved for some quality big-screen action. Additionally, let's not forget that the Kingsman movies are a ton of fun. Even The Golden Circle, which is admittedly the stranger of the two released so far, has a tremendous amount of charm alongside its over-the-top action. Oh, and it's also got a foul-mouthed Sir Elton John delivering Liu Kang-like kicks while wearing platform shoes. Honestly, what's not to love?
While seven films might seem like a stretch, it's important to remember that the Kingsman organization is vast, and is associated with plenty of other outfits, each with their own cast of charismatic agents. Personally, I would love to see a Kingsman film starring Sophie Cookson's Roxy, Halle Berry's Ginger, or Channing Tatum's shotgun-wielding Tequila. I'd follow any one of them into a solo mission for Queen and Country, or hell, perhaps someone tries to poison the Statesman's delicious whiskey supply for mass distribution. That would certainly be a cause for action.
What do you all think? Are you down for several more chapters of Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman franchise, so long as they keep things interesting? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
