Kevin Smith to direct Johnny Depp and their daughters in Yoga Hosers

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Johnny Depp and Kevin Smith, that is one pairing I never expected to see on the big screen. But, it looks like we will be seeing it as the pair will team up on screen for Smith’s YOGA HOSERS. The action comedy begins principal photography this week and will also star the offspring of the pair, Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith.

Kevin Smith recently indicated that The Weinstein’s passed on financing CLERKS III which may be why he elected to make YOGA HOSERS his next project. With his horror film TUSK wrapping, Smith will also be bringing the entire cast of that film over for YOGA HOSERS including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach and Harley Morenstein. The film will also feature Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes.

Here’s the synopsis.

Hosers, written by Smith, centers on 15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith) who have an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives with, according to the producers, “all seven Charkas, one Warrior Pose at a time.”

YOGA HOSERS is described as an action adventure “comic book” movie and is the second chapter in Smith’s True North Trilogy following TUSK. The trilogy are steeped in Canadian myths and culture. I am not sure what to make of the project but the inclusion of Depp definitely raises my interest to see just what the hell Smith has up his sleeve. It certainly marks the biggest movie star Smith has had in one of his films since Ben Affleck and Matt Damon headlined DOGMA.

YOGA HOSERS has no release date but you can guarantee that Depp will lock this one in for a wide release.
