Zack Snyder is nothing if not generous. Today the fan-favorite filmmaker has shared an extended version of the Batman and Joker "Knightmare" scene from Zack Snyder's Justice League. The newly-released version includes Joker's meme-worthy line "We live in a society," for all you purists out there.
Snyder may not be getting the restoration of the Snyderverse as many on social media have been crusading for, but this is one of many special features the filmmaker is releasing. In addition to the black and white edition of his film, Snyder has promised more to come in the future as he and Warner Bros milk what is left of his franchise for all it is worth.
According to Snyder Cut lore, multiple versions of the "Knightmare" exchange between Ben Affleck's Batman and Jared Leto's Joker were filmed. In the scene, Joker becomes visibly rattled when Batman begins talking about the death of Harley Quinn, and the promise he made as she was dying in his arms. It's brief, but you can see Joker's madness retreat for but a moment as he remembers Harley's devotion and magnetism. Of course, Joker isn't about to let Batman get the upper hand, and so he reminds the Caped Crusader of how he killed Robin, and how much the Boy Wonder screamed.
Seeing as a sequel to Zack Snyder's Justice League is unlikely, the director has shared his idea for how the story of Robin's death would have played out. Apparently, the scene would include a Last Supper-style set up where members of Batman's team are in attendance. Thinking that they're all about to die, each member of the crew tells a short story. Joker's yarn would have been about the death of Bruce Wayne's loyal ward, Dick Grayson.
Yikes! I can't imagine sitting down to a meal where the Joker is in attendance. There's no telling how he's poisoned the food or how much he'll monologue before dessert is served. That's a hard pass for me. You can have my invitation if you want.
Have you enlisted in the #RestoretheSnyderVerse army? Do you hope Warner Bros. reaches some kind of agreement to continue Snyder's vision, or, are you looking forward to DC Films featuring new voices and talents?
