Film score enthusiasts in Milwaukee were sure to be found at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts this past weekend, as one of the greatest composers of our time, John Williams, was in town cooking up some delicious leitmotifs. The five-time Academy Award and 21-time Grammy Award-winning composer joined the MSO to conduct music from some of his most well-known film scores, including STAR WARS, E.T., and HARRY POTTER. Fortunately for us, the maestro had some exciting news to share for those in attendance.

Here’s what fellow film fan Chris Kowalski had to say:

Went to see John Williams conduct the Milwaukee symphony last night and he confirmed he is starting work on EP VII in 2 weeks!

While John Williams usually does prefer to sit down with a rough cut of the film before writing music, it’s possible that he’s going in to develop some themes beforehand, or that there are some rough scenes available for him to work with. Some of the best teaser trailers have also used themes that Williams developed for the film, so perhaps a teaser may be in the works? Either way, great news for film fans all around. As if a sequel to RETURN OF THE JEDI wasn’t enough, the fact that the original composer of the STAR WARS films would return was a more than welcome surprise and is sure to lend STAR WARS: EPISODE VII that authentic sound!

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will open in theaters on December 18, 2015.
