Sometimes I wish i lived in Austin, Texas if only because the city seems to play host to more exclusive and special film events than my big city stomping grounds of Chicago.
The Alamo Drafthouse will be having an exclusive screening of THE MASTER in full 70mm glory. All proceeds from the screening will go to Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation. This will be a very special event.
To mark the special occasion, Paul Thomas Anderson has provided the Drafthouse with an exclusive new clip from THE MASTER. This clip is absolutely not safe for work and features the word pussy more times than I could count. But, you get a very nice piece of the score by Jonny Greenwood. The more we see from THE MASTER, the more amazing it looks.
Plot: PhilIp Seymour Hoffman is Lancaster Dodd, a self-made, self-absorbed and self-doubting paragon of intellect; a magnanimous socialite who’s prone to thunderous episodes. His writings are devoted to exploring mankind’s untapped potential, to the point that he seems intent on elevating himself and everyone around him to a superhuman level. Into his expanding circle stumbles Freddie Sutton (Joaquin Phoenix), a living storm of total self-destruction. The two men appear opposite in every way, but their meeting ignites a persevering mutual fascination that threatens their perceptions, their outside relationships, and even their personal well-being.
The 70mm screening will take place on Monday, September 10th in Austin. The rest of us will get to see THE MASTER when it opens on September 21st.
