We're a week away from the release of STAR TREK BEYOND and so far the buzz surrounding Justin Lin's film has been pretty positive, with our own JimmyO calling it an "impressive sequel" and a "spectacular experience" in his review. We'll have to wait and see what the general public thinks of the film and, more importantly, how it performs at the box-office, but Trek producer J.J. Abrams is already keen to move forward with another sequel. During a press conference for the film, Abrams was asked whether they'd thought of ideas for the sequel yet.
Yes, and there’s something that hopefully we’re figuratively minutes away from talking about. The answer is 100% yes, and it’s incredibly exciting.
Perhaps we'll be hearing more at Comic-Con about what they have planned for STAR TREK 4, but Access Hollywood's Scott Mantz apparently heard from Abrams that the sequel will bring both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth (who played Kirk's father in STAR TREK) together. Whether this means another flashback sequence or some time-traveling shenanigans is unknown, but it'd certainly be interesting to see Hemsworth back in the STAR TREK universe, especially as his star has exploded since that first film.
BREAKING!! #JJAbrams confirms to me that a 4th #StarTrek movie will bring together #ChrisPine & #ChrisHemsworth!! pic.twitter.com/9WRDKw54d4

While we wait for STAR TREK BEYOND to hit theaters on July 22nd, why not check out a brand new clip from the film which features Captain Kirk and crew coming across a mysterious ship in space, which promptly attacks the U.S.S. Enterprise. It could just be me, but I'm getting a little STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE feeling from Michael Giacchino's score.
