James Gunn-produced Brightburn gets a new poster and extended trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With the release of SHAZAM! and AVENGERS: ENDGAME looming on the horizon, it's easy to forget that there's another superhero movie worth getting excited about that's soon to hit theaters. Today the recently-redeemed filmmaker (depending on who you ask, of course) James Gunn took to his personal Twitter account to share a brand new poster and extended trailer for BRIGHTBURN, an upcoming superhero film with a dark and alarming twist.

Directed by THE HIVE helmer David Yarovesky, the Gunn-produced sci-fi horror feature tells the complicated story of a child who came from another world and crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to humankind, he proved to be something far more sinister. Written by Brian and Mark Gunn, BRIGHTBURN looks to be a cross between Superman and Joe Hill's pitch black and ultra-violent superhero comic book series The Cape. The film stars Elizabeth Banks (CHARLIE'S ANGELS, THE HUNGER GAMES franchise), David Denman (LOGAN LUCKY, THE GIFT) and Matt Jones (RED STATE, THE NIGHT IS YOUNG), among others, each of which will be thrust into an otherworldly scenario where a young boy with the powers of a god-like entity turns to the dark side.

As I'd mentioned above, a new poster was released alongside the entended trailer, which depicts Jackson A. Dunn's Brandon Breyer, aka Brightburn, as a seemingly unstoppable force to be reckoned with. The upcoming film warns of what happens when bad people with untold power are driven to a life of crime, murder, and revenge.

BRIGHTBURN will swoop into theaters this Memorial Day Weekend, on May 24th.
