TheArnoldFans recently caught up with TERMINATOR: GENISYS star Jai Courtney, and when asked what he thinks the rating will be for the upcoming film, said he believes it will be PG-13. Let the outrage begin!
I would love to see it be rated R, but I don’t think it will. I think in this day & age, it’s much more likely to be PG-13. There were no f-bombs. But there’ll be a healthy amount of movie violence.
While f-bombs and bloody action usually don’t make or break a movie, I’m a little disappointed TERMINATOR: GENISYS might not be rated R. I know PG-13 movies tend to do better business at the box office compared to R films, but (for recent examples) the rating really didn’t help THE EXPENDABLES 3 or the ROBOCOP remake, and I doubt most fans want another PG-13 Terminator flick.
Release dates have already been announced for the next two Terminator movies, and although Jai Courtney doesn’t come out and say Arnold Schwarzenegger will definitely be back for the sequels, it does sound like he will appear in the planned films.
Hard to imagine a Terminator film without Arnold. I guess we start filming – I think the plan is do the next 2 back to back in 2016.
In a different interview with HuffPost Live, Jai Courtney said the TERMINATOR: GENISYS won’t technically be a reboot or a sequel, and his comments about the film line up with the rumored plot details from earlier this year.
What I can say is that we start in a place we’re familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point. It’s not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don’t even know how you brand it correctly. We’re not remaking one of the early ‘Terminator’ movies. And it doesn’t necessarily carry on from the point where we left off.
Based on what little we know about the film, I like what I’ve heard so far about TERMINATOR: GENISYS…except for the possible rating. But if TERMINATOR: GENISYS ends up being a great movie, I’m not going to be too upset if it’s PG-13.
TERMINATOR: GENISYS will be in theaters on July 1, 2015.
