Into the Spider-Verse sequel may explore romance between Miles and Gwen

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is officially playing in theaters, and, in addition to damn-near universal acclaim, also seems poised to make a pretty penny at the box-office. Can you say sequel? The folks at Sony Pictures certainly can and there are already a variety of Spidey-related projects in the works.

As for what's in store for us in the sequel to SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, well, it's too early to tell for the most part, but producer Amy Pascal spoke with Vanity Fair to say that the sequel will be focused on Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and will explore a romance between the two, which is something that was present in Phil Lord's original SPIDER-VERSE script but ultimately wasn't pursued all that much. The SPIDER-VERSE sequel will be helmed by Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and scripted by David Callaham (WONDER WOMAN 1984).

There's also a SPIDER-VERSE spin-off in the works which will be centered around various Spider-Women and Amy Pascal confirmed that it will feature Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon (Silk), and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). "I think it’s great that we’re going to be able to tell movies about female superheroes in this realm, and in the live-action realm as well, because I believe that there are going to be characters that really resonate for people," Pascal said. "They’re funny and quirky and different, and heroic in all kinds of different ways that only animation allows you to do."
