Walt Disney Pictures wants to wrap up principal casting on the upcoming franchise sequel PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES (or POTCDMTNT if you want) before the holiday break a new report suggests. The candidates for the female lead have been pinned so now it's only a matter of breaking a few hearts and making the final decision. The role in question is a young woman whose character specifics are unknown except that she serves as a romantic interest to "Henry," a British soldier. We shared with you last month the news that the soldier will be played by THE GIVER and MALEFICENT star Brenton Thwaites.
The actresses pictured above that are up for the part include: (from left to right) Lucy Boynton (MISS POTTER), Alexandra Dowling (HAMMER OF THE GODS), Kaya Scodelario (THE MAZE RUNNER), Jenna Thiam (VIE SAUVAGE) and Gabriella Wilde (CARRIE).
The actress will join the growing cast that already includes the returning Johnny Depp as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa, and Javier Bardem, as the film’s villain, Captain Brand. There are still no plot details but the film is said to see Bardem’s Brand as a ghost hellbent on getting revenge against Sparrow, blaming the rake for the death of his brother. That will do it.
As you can see, this franchise is still going strong financially but hasn’t seen much critical appeal since the first entry. It doesn’t really matter when it goes on to make over a billion dollars though; hot damn! This thing will get its own TV series any day now as that’s the latest trend and seems inevitable with a property like this. It might actually be better suited for a weekly tale of ghost ships and treasure seeking in my opinion.
Are you looking forward to another go with Pirates?
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES sets sail on July 7, 2017.
