Although it didn't seem like additional photography was in the cards, it was reported yesterday that Zack Snyder will indeed be shooting new footage for his upcoming director's cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE, and not only that, but Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher will all be returning; well, maybe not everyone.
Collider's Steve Weintraub spoke with Henry Cavill for ENOLA HOLMES and asked him directly if he was shooting any new scenes for Zack Snyder's director's cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Not shooting anything additional. No. It’s all stuff that has been already done. Obviously I don’t know how things are going to evolve and change and adapt depending on now a different length of movie and whatever may happen in post-production. Whatever lessons may be learned from what is it four years since Justice League came out? Four years’ worth of fan reaction. For me…I’m now just watching the party.
That said, Weintraub notes that he spoke with Henry Cavill just before the news of additional photography for JUSTICE LEAGUE broke, so it's possible that the actor was still trying to keep the news under wraps. However, Weintraub did raise a good point as Cavill is currently shooting the second season of The Witcher overseas, and given the numerous COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols in place, it'd be hard to imagine Cavill flying to America to shoot new scenes and have to go through the quarantine process all over again in order to resume production on The Witcher. It's also possible that these scenes could be shot in London with a different crew already in place, but that's just me spitballing. The additional photography for JUSTICE LEAGUE is expected to kick off next month for close to a week, so I'd imagine that we'll be hearing more about this one way or another.
Zack Snyder's director's cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE will debut on HBO Max in 2021.
