There had been months and months of rumors that Hailee Steinfeld was being cast as Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye Disney+ series but those rumors came with no official confirmation. That all changed when Hawkeye began filming in New York City and Steinfeld was spotted on set and in costume, as the character. Marvel boss Kevin Feige later confirmed the news during Disney's Investor Day and Steinfeld couldn't be more thrilled that she no longer has to keep her casting a secret.
In a new interview with "Fandom" to promote season two of her Apple TV+ series Dickinson, Steinfeld shared her excitement about the Hawkeye project and loved that she was FINALLY able to talk about it:
"It’s amazing, my god, to finally be able to confirm! It’s such an honor to be playing this role. I’m so, so excited about it. It felt so wonderful to be back at work. I feel so grateful. It’s been a very crazy year of not knowing if that was gonna happen for a while. I’m so happy to be back at work and playing this character. It’s gonna be really fun. I’m excited for people to see it… I’m excited to see it."
Hawkeye is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and the series will dive into Clint Barton's (Jeremy Renner) backstory for the first time within the MCU. The series will also mark the debut of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), the Young Avenger who showcases her own skills with a bow and arrow during a period of time where Clint is dead. It makes sense that Steinfeld had to sit on this casting info because until Marvel confirms a casting announcement, actors aren't able to publicly comment on their roles. This happened most recently with Tatiana Maslany, who will play the lead on the Disney+ series She-Hulk. Maslany's casting was widely reported but went unconfirmed by Marvel. When Maslany was asked in an interview about the role, she shot down the casting story. It was only officially revealed when Feige named Maslany as MCU's She-Hulk during Disney's Investor Day.
Are YOU excited to see Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop? Hawkeye is expected to premiere on Disney+ in late 2021.
