I would advise that when you share this with your friends you provide the caveat that it is very much a rumor only. As in, it comes with a grain of Kosher Salt bigger than the boulder that crushed Aaron Ralston’s arm in 127 HOURS. Now that I’ve said that…
Here’s what we knew until now:
1) A Blade Runner “reinvention” will happen.
2) Ridley Scott returns to direct, very possibly once PROMETHUS is done.
3) It has already been established by Alcon Entertainment producer Andrew Kosove that the new film would have absolutely nothing to do with Harrison Ford’s character of Deckard.
And here’s the new information:
“Harrison Ford has entered into [very] early talks to join the new BLADE RUNNER. While this is still very early stages and it is quite possible that things won’t work out the obvious implication is that what we are looking at is not a reboot but a direct sequel to the original.” Now that could of course not be the case – perhaps Ford will show up for five minutes to pass his mantle and wisdom along to another Replicant hunter in his own dour way and then proceed to lose himself in the fog of the future. Who knows? I don’t. I would normally say that we’ll surely hear more soon, but considering how Ridley Scott seems to have been trying to beat J.J. Abrams at his own secretive game with the marketing for PROMETHUS it’s possible that we’ll have no idea what’s going on until the film suddenly releases one day.
So there you have it. One heaping serving of rumor with a side of speculation to sate you this morning. Do with it and this gruffly handsome face as you will:
