Halston trailer stars Ewan McGregor as the acclaimed fashion designer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Although I would imagine that most of us are eagerly awaiting the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+, that's not the only TV show that Ewan McGregor has on his slate. The actor will play acclaimed fashion designer Halston in a soon-to-be-released series from executive producer Ryan Murphy, and the first trailer for the limited-series has now been released. Check it out above!

Based on Simply Halston by Steven Gaines, Halston had originally been developed as a movie and languished in development hell for nearly twenty years, but a chance encounter with McGregor changed all that. Despite not knowing who Halston was, Ewan McGregor told THR that he "was just really taken with the presentation. He showed me all these photographs of Halston and the people in his circle — Liza Minnelli, [jewelry designer] Elsa Peretti, [his lover] Victor Hugo. And I could tell instantly from the photographs: I wanted to play him. Just something about the way he holds himself, something in his eyes… It's about a man, a creative person, who believes absolutely in what they are and who they are." Halston also stars Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, Bill Pullman as David Mahoney, Gian Franco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo, Rory Culkin as Joel Schumacher, Rebecca Dayan as Elsa Peretti, and Vera Farmiga as Adele.

The official synopsis for Halston:

The limited series Halston follows the legendary fashion designer (Ewan McGregor), as he leverages his single, invented name into a worldwide fashion empire that’s synonymous with luxury, sex, status and fame, literally defining the era he lives in, 1970’s and ‘80’s New York — until a hostile takeover forces him to battle for control of his most precious asset… the name Halston itself. The series is Executive Produced by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall, Daniel Minahan, Ewan McGregor, Eric Kovtun, Sharr White, and Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films. Minahan also serves as the series director.

Halston will debut on Netflix on May 14th.
