Gaming fans haven't heard much about the ASSASSIN’S CREED film adaptation lately, but it looks like production is full-steam ahead come next Monday! The Justin Kurzel-directed picture will star Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed. Check out the first picture of Fassbender in costume as well as a fresh synopsis below!

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Video game adaptations are notorious for being underwhelming affairs, so I'm hoping that producer Fassbender and director Kurzel have something really solid in-store for us. The character Fassbender portrays is not from the games, so it looks like they'll be deviating from what's already been established. That's a good thing in my book, because as great a concept as it is, the video games have certainly lost their strength in terms of story.
ASSASSIN’S CREED is scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2016.
