Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to THE CANNONBALL RUN franchise, and has set Etan Cohen to write and direct a new take on the film series.
The studio isn’t describing this as a remake of the original Burt Reynolds movie from stuntman-turned-director Hal Needham, but rather a relaunch based on the famous Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. Cohen made his feature film directorial debut with last year's Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart-led comedy GET HARD, and he also helped write the screenplays for MEN IN BLACK 3, TROPIC THUNDER and IDIOCRACY.
Obviously the project is still in the early stages of development, so there's no word on when production might start, or which actors are being eyed for the roles in the planned movie. Who would you like to see star in WB's CANNONBALL?
