Screen Daily has learned that the always awesome Gary Oldman has joined Gerard Butler in HUNTER KILLER, a submarine thriller based on the George Wallace and Donald Keith novel Firing Point. Butler will play "a submarine captain who must save the day after the Russian president is kidnapped by a rogue Russian general," while Oldman has been cast as a U.S. official.
The long-gestating project had previously attracted the talents of Phillip Noyce, Antoine Fuqua, and Martin Campbell, however no director is currently attached to the planned movie, and finding one will be the next task for Original Film producers Neil Moritz and Toby Jaffe. Millennium Films will fully finance the film, and Relativity Media will release it in the U.S. once the company emerges from bankruptcy. Who would you like to see helm HUNTER KILLER?
Gary Oldman can be seen next starring alongside Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and Alice Eve in Ariel Vromen's CRIMINAL on April 15, 2016, while Gerard Butler's upcoming films include Alex Proyas' GODS OF EGYPT (due out February 26th) and LONDON HAS FALLEN (March 24th).
