Frank Grillo & Iko Uwais battle aliens in Beyond Skyline trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Remember SKYLINE? Me neither, but here's a quick refresher for the both of us: Aliens invade Earth and, through a hypnotizing light, immobilize much of the population and begin vacuuming them up for their life energy. Directed by the Brothers Strause (ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM), the film was a commercial success but was almost universally panned by critics, however, a sequel is now upon us, whether we want it or not. BEYOND SKYLINE does comes armed with a secret weapon though, the combined kick-ass talents of Frank Grillo (CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER) as well as THE RAID stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian. Son of a bitch, I'm going to have to watch this now.

Taking place during the same time-frame as the first movie, BEYOND SKYLINE follows Mark (Frank Grillo), a tough-as-nails detective, who embarks on a relentless pursuit to free his son from a nightmarish alien warship. The recently released trailer for the film may not be the most impressive you've ever seen, but it already looks to be an improvement on its predecessor, not that that would be particularly difficult.

According to BEYOND SKYLINE writer/director Liam O'Donnell, who also penned the first movie, it was always in his mind that the sequel would follow "new characters on the same night as the invasion depicted in the first movie. That way we could see some of the things from the first movie from a different perspective before heading up into the Mothership and getting a more global view of the invasion." O'Donnell also wanted to give audiences more of what they expected the first film should have been like, and turned the sequel into an action/adventure movie.

Anyone out there excited for BEYOND SKYLINE?
