I'm old enough to remember a time when the only Batman on screen was Adam West. Then Tim Burton's BATMAN released in 1989 and actor Michael Keaton changed the game forever. Since Keaton rasped the infamous line, "I'm Batman" over thirty years ago, no less than four actors have played the Caped Crusader on screen. Although many were sad to see Ben Affleck hang up the cape and cowl, time marches on for Gotham's Dark Knight.
Director Matt Reeves (WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES) was brought in to helm a new trilogy for the Bat. After an extensive search that had everyone from Armie Hammer to Nicholas Hoult rumored for the role, Reeves finally settled on Robert Pattinson. THE LIGHTHOUSE actor has made quite a name for himself since starring as a sparkly vampire, with indie hits like GOOD TIME and THE LOST CITY OF Z. Pre-production has been gearing up for quite some time now and it looks like we may finally have the first real on-set photos of the film courtesy of Twitter. Check it out:

Now granted, these photos (captured in Liverpool, England) don't exactly make one want to run out and scale the Gotham City Bank. However, at least it's something. What's interesting to me is the vehicles themselves. This could be just wishful thinking on my part but they are definitely giving off a 1990s vibe, especially the news truck. If so that would fall in line with previous unsubstantiated reports that the film would be set during that decade. Regardless, even if these shots are only for B-roll, principal photography is eminent. Zoe Kravitz sported a Catwoman pixie cut at the Golden Globes last night and actor Jeffery Wright confirmed on his Twitter that he was extremely jetlagged and about to "enter Gotham."
Again while these photos aren't much to go on, Batman fans are hungry for anything related to Reeves' upcoming film. Pictures of Gotham News trucks and Gotham Police vehicles will have to suffice until we see Mr. Pattinson wearing the Batsuit. Ughhhh! I can't wait! I need it now!
THE BATMAN starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard, and John Turturro hits theaters June 25, 2021.
