Female-led Fast & Furious spinoff may have found its three writers

This summer the first spinoff of the FAST & FURIOUS series will be hitting theaters – HOBBS & SHAW – with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham providing all the thrills you could ever need, as opposed to a whole team led by Vin Diesel. Given how much dough these movies have been bringing in you can bet Universal won’t stop with H&S, and thanks to a post by Diesel it seems like they already have a team of writers in place to craft a female-led spinoff.

Diesel took to Instagram to hype a pitch meeting he just got out of, and in the process sent a shout out to three screenwriters – Nicole Perlman (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, DETECTIVE PIKACHU), Lindsey Beer (CHAOS WALKING) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (CAPTAIN MARVEL). While this may not be an official confirmation of their involvement with the movie, it’s a safe bet to speculate they’ll be writing the spinoff or developing it in some way.

“As you know, there are three new spin offs that We have promised Universal… well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha’s face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY…”

The first we heard about the project, as well as another mystery spinoff, was back in October when on the set of BLOODSHOT Diesel spilled the beans about the movie Universal gave the go-ahead to. With the writing team apparently in place the project seems more like a reality, even if we don’t know exactly which characters the movie will center on. Will it feature all original characters? Will it take from the ensemble of current female actresses in the series, like Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel and more? Clearly, we should stick to Diesel’s Instagram for new developments.

All three writers have been making a splash as of late in the screenwriting game. Perlman has a credit on one of the best Marvel movies ever and has DETECTIVE PIKACHU on the way; Beer wrote CHAOS WALKING starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley and is attached to THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE and; Robertson-Dworet has March’s CAPTAIN MARVEL under her belt, as well as last year’s TOMB RAIDER. Tackling a FAST & FURIOUS movie would be yet another major milestone for them, and possibly a guaranteed hit.
