We already know that director F. Gary Gray will be shooting FAST 8 in New York City, as well as possibly Cuba, and Vísir (via Iceland Review) is reporting that the globe-trotting action franchise will also be heading to Iceland. Mayor Regína Ásvaldsdóttir has confirmed that filming will take place this April in Akranes (which is about 28 miles north of Reykjavík), mostly "by the harbor and in the so-called Cement Fields." Some of The Wachowski's Netflix series Sense8 was shot at the town's hospital.
According to the report, the FAST 8 crew "has plans to carry out the largest explosion ever in Iceland." Ásvaldsdóttir says “Surely, this is an extensive project and will affect retail and service in town,” but claims residents are excited. Last month, Gray talked a little about what he has planned for the eighth installment in the series.
I’m probably not at liberty to go too far into detail. All I have to say is I’m extremely excited about the direction we’re going in, and we’re really pushing to make sure the audience feels like it’s not more of the same. They feel like it’s fresh, they feel like the characters they’ve come to know and love are there, but this is gonna be different, and that’s probably the most I can give you right now.
FAST 8 will be in theaters on April 14, 2017.
