Faces of Death reimagining in the works from Legendary

Here's a remake I didn't see coming — THR has reported that Legendary Entertainment has picked up the rights to Faces of Death, the infamous 1978 exploitation horror film that claimed to show gruesome real footage of death, and are developing a reimagining.

The original film presented itself as a documentary and followed pathologist Francis B. Gröss has he shared footage of gruesome ways to die from around the world in an attempt to understand and study the many "faces of death." Just how much of the footage is genuine continues to be up for debate, but a large portion was staged just for the film; even so, Faces of Death was banned in many countries and continues to enjoy a spine-chilling reputation. Legendary's new reimagining of Faces of Death will come courtesy of Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, the duo behind 2018's Cam, who will write and direct, respectively.

The new Faces of Death will revolve around "a female moderator of a YouTube-like website, whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, that stumbles across a group that is recreating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age and age of online misinformation, the question faced is are the murders real or fake?" The original film spawned numerous sequels over the years, most of which simply recycled footage from the previous movies.
