UPDATE: The D23 website is reporting that Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) and Will McCormack be writing TOY STORY 4, and that the story was created by the Pixar dream team of Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Lee Unkrich.
Here’s a quote from the Lasseter:
"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us,” Lasseter said. “We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself."
There’s either a snake in my boot or I’m just really excited for this news: Walt Disney Pictures Chairman and CEO Bob Iger just revealed that TOY STORY 4 is set for release on June 16, 2017 with John Lasseter directing! As a big fan of the series, I’m pretty stocked to hear that we're getting another installment of this great franchise. It seemed like it was only a matter of time considering how successful TOY STORY 3 was; that sequel went on to make over $1 billion at the box office.
John Lasseter directed the original TOY STORY and TOY STORY 2 now serves as Chief Creative Officer for all three of Disney's animation studios. It’s great to have him back; he did a wonderful job with those first two movies. Also, while not confirmed, you can bet that TOY STORY 4 will feature the returning voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. We will keep you posted as more news about the upcoming sequel arrives.
In the meantime, you can soon watch Toy Story That Time Forgot which is set to air on December 2 2014.
What do you think, are you excited for another story or wish it would end with the perfect TS3?
