The reality of a DEADPOOL film is more like a dream. While all the elements are there, Fox apparently has some hang ups when it comes to giving this thing a greenlight.
What’s the problem here? There could be risks in the R-rating and a crazy, violent character pushing the boundaries of comic films by breaking down the fourth wall. Ryan Reynolds also recently mentioned that the script also drops the names of several studio execs in its pages, which definitely won’t fly. Is there something more here? I guess there could be a view variables that are more opinion based like having Reynolds as the lead, or maybe having Tim Miller a former visual effects specialist as a director. I don’t see either of these as problems. In fact, I don’t see any problems at all. I think the main issue is that the studio won’t step up and take a shot on it. There’s so much potential with a character like Deadpool.
The reason I’m going on about the ever gestating film is that attached director, Tim Miller expressed his never ending optimism for the film:
We will never give up! Deadpool is still alive and we’re just waiting for the studio to embrace what an amazingly f*cking awesome film this would be. Ryan is ready, I am ready, the fans are more than ready, we just need that elusive green light.”
My issue is, how long will we keep hearing that the film is this close to being greenlit? Quit toying with the emotions of fans. Either grow some balls, or shut it down. There’s no point in disgracing the source material by making it a PG-13 romp.
