Word has come down the wire that The CW and DC Universe are joining forces for the arrival of STARGIRL, an upcoming live-action series starring Brec Bassinger as the show's star-spangled heroine.
As per today's announcement, The CW will broadcast each episode of the series the day after its debut on the streaming service, with new episodes arriving weekly. As a way of sweetening the pot, each episode will also be made available to stream via The CW's digital platform following the inaugural broadcast. Naturally, the full season will also be made available to subscribers once all is said and done. For the moment, STARGIRL has yet to receive a release date, though sources close to the project suspect that it will drop in the second quarter of 2020.
Here's the official synopsis for DC Universe's STARGIRL:
Courtney Whitmore (aka Stargirl) is smart, athletic and above all else kind. This high school teenager's seemingly perfect life hits a major speed bump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. "Borrowing" the long-lost hero's cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.
In addition to Brec Bassinger, STARGIRL also stars also stars Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker and Hunter Sansone. The series is coming to DC Universe and The CW courtesy of executive producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns and Sarah Schechter.
