Daniel Craig to miss two weeks of Bond 25 production due to ankle surgery

Daniel Craig, Bond 25, injury

Not long ago, the official Twitter account for director Cary Fukunaga's BOND 25 posted a bittersweet update related to the film's production. After injuring his ankle while sprinting during a scene for the much-anticipated spy sequel, it's been announced that James Bond actor Daniel Craig will miss two weeks of production on the film while healing from the ordeal. Thankfully, shooting for BOND 25 will continue despite Craig's absence from the set. Meanwhile the studio is confident that the movie will hit its April 3, 2020 UK release target.

News of Craig's injury was reported earlier this month when an unnamed source told The Sun:

“He was sprinting during filming when he slipped and fell quite awkwardly,” the source reportedly said. “He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle.”

While no one likes the idea of Craig being down and out for even a short period of time, it's comforting to know that there's still plenty left to film without the Bond actor being present and accounted for. After all, Craig isn't the only star player in Fukunaga's BOND 25. In April, it was announced that Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, David Dencik and Dali Benssalah would be joining the feature as key cast members. As for the film itself, it's been reported that the plot revolves around Bond having left active service to enjoy a tranquil life in Jamaica. However, his peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Fukunaga will co-write the script alongside Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, Scott Z Burns and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, in addition to serving as the film's director. Though the film remains untitled for the moment, the hope is that we'll hear more details once Craig is fully healed, ready to straighten his cuff links, and give the camera a steely glare, once more.

BOND 25 will put a hit out on North American theaters on April 8, 2020.
