Colin Trevorrow will no longer direct Star Wars Episode IX

When it comes to STAR WARS, it seems that you can either do things Lucasfilms' way, or you can take a hike. The STAR WARS franchise hasn't had the best of luck with director's lately, with Christopher Miller and Phil Lord getting the boot from the Han Solo spin-off earlier this year, and now it appears as though they've parted ways with Colin Trevorrow as well, who was set to direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.

In a statement, Lucasfilm said:

Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.

A month ago it was revealed that the script for STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, which had been penned by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, would be getting a rewrite courtesy of Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). It's not yet known who will be stepping into the director's chair for STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, but I expect that's something Lucasfilm will announce soon. Perhaps STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI director Rian Johnson will step in, or maybe Ron Howard, who has been handling the reshoots on the Han Solo film, will be rewarded with a STAR WARS movie of his own.
