Chris Miller says Spider-Verse 2 will make the first look visually quaint

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, sequel

Following Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) as he became the new Spider-Man and joined other Spider-People from various dimensions in order to save New York City from Kingpin, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was a very welcome surprise; not only was the story top-notch, but the animation was on an entirely different level. With it's eye-popping colour and kinetic action, the film emulated a comic-book better than any of its predecessors.

Sony quickly got the ball rolling on a sequel, which officially swung into production last month, and producer Christopher Miller took to Twitter to tease that it's going to make the first film look quaint in the visual department.

The art-style of INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was a bit of a departure from most big-budget animated films, and now that they know the public was into it, I could certainly see the team doubling down on that distinctive style for the upcoming sequel. I'm excited.

As far as what the SPIDER-VERSE sequel has in store for us in the story department, it's hard to say at this point, but producer Amy Pascal has previously said that the sequel could explore a romance between Miles Morales (Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). In addition to the sequel, there's also a SPIDER-VERSE spin-off in the works which will be centered around various Spider-Women and Amy Pascal confirmed that it will feature Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon (Silk), and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). "I think it’s great that we’re going to be able to tell movies about female superheroes in this realm, and in the live-action realm as well, because I believe that there are going to be characters that really resonate for people," Pascal said. "They’re funny and quirky and different, and heroic in all kinds of different ways that only animation allows you to do."

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2 is currently slated for a October 7, 2022 release.
