Chloe Moretz set to star in live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid

Sofia Coppola was set to direct Universal's live-action adaptation of THE LITTLE MERMAID, but earlier this year it was announced that she would be leaving the project due to "creative differences." Ah yes, that old chestnut. At the time, we didn't know exactly why Coppola had exited the project, but thanks to today's casting news, we've got a little more information.

It has been announced that Chloe Grace Moretz is set to star in Universal's live-action adaptation of THE LITTLE MERMAID, which is apparently a part of what prompted Sofia Coppola's exit. Universal was pushing for an established star, such as Chloe Grace Moretz, but Sofia Coppola was more interested in searching for a relative unknown actress for the lead. As they couldn't come to an agreement, Coppola chose to leave. THE LITTLE MERMAID is currently without a director but Richard Curtis (LOVE, ACTUALLY) is nearing a deal to pen the script for the film.

Chloe Grace Moretz has got a variety of projects coming up, she's currently filming the sequel to the Seth Rogen/Zac Efron comedy NEIGHBORS, has NOVEMBER CRIMINALS and BRAIN ON FIRE in the can, and will next be seen in THE 5TH WAVE on January 15, 2016.
