The Princess Bride, Quibi, remake

Over the past few months while they've been stuck in quarantine, a group of celebrities have been working in secret to shoot a homemade fan-film version of THE PRINCESS BRIDE, one of the most beloved fantasy/comedies of all-time, which is slated to be shown on Quibi chapter by chapter for two weeks beginning this Monday.

The star-studded cast of THE PRINCESS BRIDE fan-film includes famous couples such as Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, and Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis, as well as appearances from Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Andy Serkis, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi and Zazie Beetz, and many more. Additionally, THE PRINCESS BRIDE director Rob Reiner will play The Grandfather, with Fred Savage reprising his role of The Grandson in certain scenes. Jason Reitman (GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE) explained to Vanity Fair how he came up with the initial concept of the at-home PRINCESS BRIDE fan-film to help raise funds for the World Central Kitchen charity.

The week that the stay-at-home order came through in California, I just woke up one of the first mornings, I think like most people did, feeling as though, All right, I need to be able to do something of value. I just thought, Can we remake an entire movie at home? And I had seen that a fan-made Star Wars had been done. I just started reaching out to actors I knew, saying, ‘Is this something you’d want to do?’ And the response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.’

Jason Reitman presented the idea to Quibi's Jeffrey Katzenberg, who loved it and made a $1 million donation to World Central Kitchen.  Reitman encouraged the actors involved to think like kids and use ordinary items as props. "I remind them that it’s more fun if you make mistakes, make this homemade," Reitman said. "It’s better to have an umbrella than a sword."
