It seems that She-Hulk will soon be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it was announced at the D23 Expo several weeks ago that She-Hulk, as well as Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel, would be receiving her very own live-action series on the Disney+ streaming service. During the Disney+ presentation at D23, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that the She-Hulk series would be "unlike anything we've done before." I'm down.
After finding herself shot and seriously wounded by a mobster, Jennifer Walters desperately needed a blood transfusion in order to save her life, but the only available donor was her cousin, Bruce Banner. As a result of this transfusion of Banner's radioactive blood, Jennifer found that she could transform into a large, powerful green-skinned version of herself, but unlike her cousin, she's typically able to retain much of her intelligence and emotional control. Walters was later hired as a lawyer for the Superhuman Law division of the New York firm of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway. In addition, She-Hulk is one of the few Marvel characters who has the ability to break the fourth-wall, much like Deadpool.
It remains to be seen whether She-Hulk will be a CG character in the Disney+ series, but given the limited number of episodes these Marvel series seem to be aiming towards (six), not to mention Disney's Scrooge McDuck-style vault of cold, hard cash, I doubt that they'll be thifty with the visual-effects budget. Even if She-Hulk doesn't end up as a purely CG character, I would imagine that, at the very least, she will be CG-enhanced, meaning that we don't have to limit our options to actresses who can pull off the ripped, green look.
As usual, I'll toss out a few suggestions of actresses who could take on the role of She-Hulk to get you started. First up, Morena Baccarin (WALDO), who has plenty of experience in the realm of comic-book fare thanks to roles in The Flash, Gotham, DEADPOOL, and more. Sure, Disney may own Deadpool now thanks to its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, but Baccarin would be far from the first person to take on additional roles in the MCU. Plus, I'm sure there's some double-meta joke they could crack if they make use of She-Hulk's fourth-wall ability. For my second choice, I'll go with one of the more popular picks amongst fans to play She-Hulk, Rosario Dawson (ZOMEBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP). As with Baccarin, Dawson also has a role in the MCU, that of Claire Temple in the now-cancelled Marvel shows on Netflix, but I love her, so screw it! As for my final suggestion, I'll go with Kate Siegel (The Haunting of Hill House).
Remember, you're free to suggest anyone in the comments, so let your inner casting director run wild!
Previously on Cast This, you were asked to fill the role of Deacon Frost, the bad-ass vampire who served as one of Blade's foes in the original comic. With Marvel Studios set to reboot BLADE with Mahershala Ali in the title role, there's a chance we might just see Deacon Frost on the big-screen once again. As usual, you came through with plenty of great suggestions, including Ben Foster (HOSTILES), Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders), and Ben Barnes (Westworld).
