Cast This: Lobo

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Time to head back to the comics to find our next “Cast This” subject.

After the LOBO adaptation lost Guy Ritchie, I thought this thing was in the crapper. What studio would be ballsy enough to do this? What director would do it justice? Warner Bros. held the property, but the only thing they could manage is slapping a PG-13 on it, and will probably later add that it was a “hard PG-13”. The studio recently hired Brad Peyton to direct the film. I’m all for giving someone a chance, but this guys last efforts were JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE. Maybe Peyton wants to move on from family films, however, trying to figure out who should direct this is not the topic at hand.

Lobo is a humorous, egotistical, arrogant, hard ass alien bounty hunter who is really only looking after himself. Let’s face it, the guy’s name is Khundian for “he who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it.” Hell, Lobo is constantly challenging Superman just so he can prove he’s better. Not to mention, he was fired from the Justice League (on the animated series). He’s the best kind of scumbag there is.

So, who will you choose? Jeffrey Dean Morgan? Tom Hardy, again? Screech? Get the frag to it and pick who you want to play Lobo.

RESULTS FROM PREVIOUS ‘CAST THIS’: Who should direct TERMINATOR 5?:

1. James Cameron 2. Duncan Jones 3. Brad Bird

There’s no real surprise on this one. Of course you want Cameron to come back. Unfortunately, that’s not happening so let’s move on to your other choices. Duncan Jones was a big hit. After seeing something like SOURCE CODE and knowing this guy has a geekon for sci-fi, you could trust him with a film in this franchise. Brad Bird impressed viewers with MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL. You shouldn’t have been. THE INCREDIBLES was worthy enough. Oh, and for the jokester who said my mom should direct– she’s not interested.
