I never would have expected that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) would be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe hero to headline their fourth standalone film, but THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER was officially announced earlier this year with THOR: RAGNAROK's Taika Waititi returning to write and direct. In addition to Hemsworth, the upcoming sequel will also feature the return of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, but as always, our heroes will need a memorable villain.
Over the course of Thor's past three standalone adventures, the God of Thunder has faced off against Loki, The Destroyer, Malekith, Hela, and others, but one possibility for who should menace Thor in his fourth film is Amora, an Asgardian sorceress who is also known as The Enchantress. Given the title as well as the return of Valkyrie and Jane Foster, it seems reasonable to believe that THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER might just have a focus on romance, which would make Enchantress the perfect foil for Thor and friends.
First appearing in Journey into Mystery #103 back in 1964, The Enchantress is a powerful sorceress who wields a variety of mystical powers, including illusion, teleportation, telekinesis, mind control, and more. She also frequently uses her abilities and beauty to in order to seduce her targets, which includes Thor. With the destruction of Asgard in THOR: RAGNAROK, the remaining Asgardians have made their new home in Norway, and it wouldn't be hard to imagine Enchantress using her powers to pit Thor, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster against each other in a bid to take over control of New Asgard.
Now, let's get this ball rolling and figure out who should play Enchantress in THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER. As usual, I'll toss out a few suggestions to get you started. First up, we'll start with Emily Blunt (A QUIET PLACE: PART II), who has flirted with the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time as she has previously turned down the roles of Black Widow and Peggy Carter. Next up is Eva Green (DUMBO), who has certainly played more than her share of seductive characters, but god-damn if she wouldn't be absolutely perfect for this role. For my final choice, I'll go with Jessica Chastain (IT: CHAPTER TWO). Like Blunt, Chastain has previously been up for a Marvel character as she passed on the role Rebecca Hall would end up playing in IRON MAN 3 due to scheduling conflicts; plus, I'd love to see her take on a villain role which would wash away the stench which was DARK PHOENIX.
Remember, you're free to suggest anyone in the comments, so let your inner casting director run wild!
Previously on Cast This, you were asked to fill the role of Doctor Octopus, one of Spider-Man's oldest and most nefarious villains. As usual, you came through with plenty of great suggestions for the role, including Rainn Wilson (Star Trek: Discovery), Jared Harris (Chernobyl), and Michael Emerson (Lost).
