Well, here's a bit of Marvel Cinematic Universe news to bring our Wednesday to a close; Deadline has reported that CANDYMAN director Nia DaCosta has been tapped to direct the CAPTAIN MARVEL sequel, taking over for Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, who helmed the first film. Deadline's Justin Kroll said that Marvel had been meeting with candidates for the gig over the past several months, but that "DaCosta seemed to have the edge for some time even as she and others met with Marvel chief Kevin Feige over the weekend."

Brie Larson will be returning to star as Carol Danvers in the CAPTAIN MARVEL sequel, which has been penned by Megan McDonnell (WandaVision). Not much is known regarding the plot of the sequel, but we do know that the film will be ditching the '90s setting of the first film and will take place in the present day instead. It's not clear exactly why Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck won't be returning for CAPTAIN MARVEL 2, but a report earlier in the year indicated that the duo aren't done with the MCU as they're looking to direct one of the upcoming MCU shows destined for the Disney+ streaming service.

Nia DaCosta is the director of the much anticipated CANDYMAN sequel which takes place a decade after the housing projects of Chicago's Cabrini Green were torn down. The legend of Candyman still thrives among the residents, and when visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend Brianna Cartright (Teyonah Parris) move into a luxury loft condo in the noew gentrified Cabrini, they soon discover the true story behind horrific legend of Candyman. The release of the film has been delayed several times but CANDYMAN is currently slated to hit theaters on October 16, 2020.
