THE TERMINATOR reboot is getting closer to finding one of its leads, as two frontrunners have emerged, according to Deadline. Emilia Clarke (HBO’s Game of Thrones) and Brie Larson (SHORT TERM 12) have jumped to the top of the list for the Alan Tayler helmed reboot of James Cameron‘s popular franchise. Clarke has wowed viewers since her debut as Daenerys Targaryan in Game of Thrones, playing a similarly-themed character (unsuspecting innocent to warrior queen) and Brie Larson just took home a best actress award from the Gotham Awards for her performance in SHORT TERM 12. A good duo to choose from for a strong role.
From Deadline:
“Both actresses have tested for the producers, and they are the frontrunners. I have heard that Clarke has an edge, and that would not be surprising. Before Taylor helmed Thor: The Dark World, he directed Clarke in HBO’s Game Of Thrones.”
In addition to Sarah Conner, it appears that both Kyle Reese and John Conner will play a role in the reboot as well, although it’s unclear to what extent, age, or time frame that will be.
“I’ve also heard that Kyle Reese, played by Michael Biehn in the original film, will be a character in this version, as will John Connor, so it seems like a jump into the future might be part of the plot line. The completion of this franchise is expected to span at least two films.”
I know there will be red bars of hate for the very notion of the reboot, but that’s to be expected. I’m willing to give it a go and interested to see how they approach the franchise going forward. Of course, it could always go south, but so far I’m liking the casting chatter and having Alan Taylor at the helm is an intriguing choice and lest we forget, ol’ Schwarzenegger is back in the mix as well.
THE TERMINATOR reboot is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.
