SPOILERS for the first episode of The Mandalorian. Consider yourself warned.
We're now two episodes deep into the second season of The Mandalorian, but there are already plenty of rumblings out there about the third season of the series as well as other potential STAR WARS TV shows. All these tidbits have led to a bit of confusion, but as this is STAR WARS we're talking about, you can bet that people are dissecting every little piece.
Although The Mandalorian hasn't officially been renewed for a third season just yet, series creator Jon Favreau has been developing the new season since early this year, but there have been conflicting reports as to when that new season will start shooting. Some have pointed to production kicking off as early as next week, while others are saying it won't get underway until next year, but Deadline has heard that it won't be The Mandalorian shooting first, but rather a Boba Fett miniseries. Let that sink in. The final moments of the season two premiere included an appearance from Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, at least, that's who we're meant to assume he is. As Mando is now in possession of Boba Fett's armor, which was given to him by Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), it's only a matter of time before the two characters face off. The possibility of a Mandalorian spin-off series was teased by then-Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this year, who said, "the possibility of infusing [The Mandalorian] with more characters and the possibility of taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series." Again, this is far from official at this time, but we might have a better idea where Lucasfilm plans on taking Boba Fett's character in the episodes to come. There are plenty of possibilities for such a series, which could pick up in whatever place The Mandalorian leaves him or even tell the tale of how he escaped from the Sarlacc pit.
Additionally, there had been rumours of another Mandalorian spin-off series that would focus on Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), but Deadline said that project doesn't seem to be in the cards, at least for the moment. There's also a female-centric series in the works that is being developed by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) which is said to be an action-thriller with martial arts elements that will take place in a different part of the STAR WARS timeline than the other projects.
