One of Disney's many upcoming remakes of their animated classics will be Jon Favreau's THE LION KING, and although we already knew who most of the actors taking part in the film were, seeing the all-star cast together is quite impressive. It had been rumoured for quite some time that Beyonce was Jon Favreau's top-choice to play Nala, Simba's childhood friend who would later become his wife, and the singer confirmed her involvement in a Facebook post which showcases the rest of the cast.
In addition to Beyonce as Nala, THE LION KING stars Donald Glover as Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones, as Mufasa, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Kasuma as Shenzi, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, and JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph as young Simba and young Nala, respectively. "It is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life," said Jon Favreau in a statement. Here's the official synopsis for the upcoming film:
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
THE LION KING is set for a July 19, 2019 release.
