Armie Hammer exits Paramount+ series about making of The Godfather

Armie Hammer has pulled out of another project as Variety has reported that the actor will no longer be starring in The Offer, a ten-part limited-series about the making of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather that will debut on the Paramount+ streaming service.

Just weeks ago, Armie Hammer also dropped out of Shotgun Wedding, an action/comedy that stars Jennifer Lopez and will follow a couple who "gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begins to get cold feet. And if that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage." The departure came as actor was in the middle of a social media scandal following the leaking of direct messages that allegedly found the actor describing fantasies which included sexual slavery and cannibalism. In his own statement, Hammer said, "I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that." It was later reported that Josh Duhamel (Transformers) was in talks to replace Hammer in Shotgun Wedding.

As for The Offer, Hammer was slated to play The Godfather producer Al Ruddy, and the series will be based on Ruddy's "never before revealed experiences" of making the iconic film. The search is currently on for a new actor to star in the series. The Offer will be written and executive produced by Michael Tolkin (Escape at Dannemora), with the real-life Al Ruddy also serving as an executive producer alongside Nikki Toscano (Hunters) and Leslie Greif (Hatfields & McCoys). The series also isn't the only project revolving around the making of The Godfather currently in the works as Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog) is also developing a feature-film about the making of the classic film featuring an all-star cast that includes Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as Francis Ford Coppola and Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home) as play Robert Evans. Armie Hammer will next be seen in Crisis alongside Gary Oldman and Evangeline Lilly on February 26, 2021, as well as Death on the Nile opposite Gal Gadot on September 17, 2021.
