I've heard tale from over at Deadline Hollywood that Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Richard Donner are all ruminating on the possibility of doing another film for the the LETHAL WEAPON franchise. The entertainment news outlet is postulating that if the project were to come to fruition, Donner would direct the sequel from a script penned by LETHAL WEAPON 4's own Channing Gibson. While several Tetris pieces would need to be re-oriented to form a line for this supposed project, Hollywood whispers are saying that all are on board and exploring the possibility of another film.
If the Lethal-sequel were to become a reality, Warner Bros., the studio who brought the original and its sequels to the masses, would once again be distributing the action-oriented buddy comedy. In recent times, the rebooted TV show based on the LETHAL WEAPON brand starring Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford was picked up for a sophomore season, after the series debut finished as a part of Fox's Top 5 highest ranked shows that season.
For the TV show, Riggs (Crawford) and Murtaugh (Wayans), who work a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles are quite the pair. Grief-stricken after the loss of his young wife and unborn child, Navy SEAL-turned-detective Riggs moves to California to “start over” at the LAPD. He’s paired up with Murtaugh, who’s just coming back to the job after a near-fatal heart attack. Riggs’ penchant for diving headfirst into the line of fire immediately clashes with Murtaugh’s prudent, by-the-book technique. One has everything to live for, the other has nothing to lose.
What say you, Schmoes? Are you game for Gibson and Glover returning to their "odd couple cop" roles for another installment of the LETHAL WEAPON franchise? Or, are both actors "too old for this shit," and it's better for everyone if we just move on? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
