With the runaway success of such movies as POKEMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, could it be that video game adaptations are finally experiencing an upswing in quality? I suppose that only time will tell, though with Sony's UNCHARTED steadily coming together, it won't be long before we find out if the world is willing to open their hearts and wallets to even more legendary characters hailing from the time-honored interactive medium.

It's been announced that Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas is joining the cast of Sony's UNCHARTED, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Also set to explore the unknown for Sony's upcoming action-adventure adaptation are THE WILDS and GREY'S ANATOMY actress Sophia Ali, as well as THE 100 actor Tati Gabrielle. In addition to the aforementioned actors boarding the long-gestating project, it's been reported that VENOM and ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP helmer Ruben Fleischer will now direct the movie.

Created by Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation, the Uncharted video game series revolves around the globe-trotting adventures of Nathan Drake, an explorer who continuously finds himself at war with rival seekers of artifacts that, once acquired, could help shape the future of mankind in ways never though possible. For the film that is currently under construction, Holland will assume the role of Nathan Drake, while Wahlberg has been cast as Drake's long-time partner in exploration and friend, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. For the moment, it is unknown who Banderas, Ali and Gabrielle will be playing in the film.

Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the most recent script of the film, which now has a release date of March 5, 2021.
