A fifth and final installment of The Purge will unleash chaos in Summer 2020

Have you ever scrolled through the daily news cycle and thought to yourself, "You know what? Perhaps THE PURGE is onto something?" It's okay, we're all friends here. You can totally admit that there have been days when a 12-hour grace period to incite and inflict violence on your fellow neighbor has piqued your darkest of interests. We're only human after all, and sometimes that nagging devil on your shoulder can have quite the silver tongue. Regardless of how desperate our world might appear on any given day, The Purge is not a real-life event. Thankfully, James DeMonaco has got our back, thanks to his twisted imagination and long-running THE PURGE film franchise.

Today Universal has announced that the next installment of DeMonaco's Purge franchise will be unleashed in theaters on Friday, July 10, 2020. As is tradition, DeMonaco will write the new chapter which has Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes producing. In addition to writing the screenplay, DeMonaco will also produce alongside Sébastien K. Lemercier via the duo's Man in a Tree banner. Furthermore, Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will also produce.

When talking about the upcoming sequel, DeMonaco stated "I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home."

Further details for the newest Purge project are scarce at this time, as a plot summary and director credit have yet to be made available.
