Alan Ritchson is on his way to becoming the next big action star. The muscular actor has already made a name for himself, bringing Lee Child’s Jack Reacher character to life in Amazon’s Reacher. He is also appearing in the upcoming installment in the auto-action franchise Fast & Furious with Fast X. Now, Black Bear Pictures has revealed that the hulking star is slated to star in an action thriller from Timur Bekmambetov, the director of Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, titled Motor City.
According to Black Bear International, in Motor City, “Ritchson will play John Miller, a Detroit man released from prison, who unleashes a rampage of brutal vengeance on those who framed him. The Detroit-set film will be characterized by immersive visual storytelling, with stunningly choreographed and stylized action sequences.”
Bekmambetov has expressed his excitement for taking on the project, “We have an incredible script that takes us into a gruesomely dark world. I’m thrilled to bring this story to life on the big screen. With the help of our amazing cast and the talented production team, we’re poised to create a cinematic spectacle.”
Executive Producer John Friedberg echoes his sentiment, “I love this script, it’s incredibly exciting and fast-paced and will be just the sort of distinctive action movie that audiences around the world are looking for. And having recently worked with Alan and seen what he is capable of, he is clearly going to be the next heavyweight action star.”
Ritchson has parlayed his Reacher relationship with Amazon Studios by signing on for a three-picture film deal for acting in projects. In addition to Fast X, the Reacher star is set to appear in the Lionsgate drama Ordinary Angels opposite Hilary Swank. Ritchson has also recently wrapped production on Black Bear International’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, a war drama starring Henry Cavill, Eiza Gonzalez, which is helmed by prolific director Guy Ritchie.
Greg Silverman and Jon Berg are on board to produce Motor City for Stampede Ventures. Joining them are Cliff Roberts and Chad St. John, who also penned the screenplay. The executive producers of the film are set to include Chris Bosco and Gideon Yu for Stampede Ventures, and John Friedberg for Black Bear International. Black Bear International will be pitching the high-octane action movie to international buyers at the upcoming Cannes Marché du Film. WME Independent will be co-representing the domestic rights along with Stampede.
